Commonly known as Flying fish & scientifically named as Exocoetidae has more than 40 known species, grouped in 7 to 9 genera (families). Flying fish are commonly found in world’s tropical & sub tropical oceans where they have right temperatures to thrive. Flying fish have a very unique defense mechanism for escaping predators. They have found that the best way to avoid other fish in the water is to get out of the water.

By using their amazing & unusually large pectoral fins, they can take short gliding flights through air, above the surface of the water around 50m.

Flying fish are occasionally beating the surface of the water with its tail fin (caudal fin) in long their flights. Their main diet is Omnivore & they grow up to 18 in (45 cm).

A blue and yellow fish that just fits in to the “dwarf angelfish” category is the bicolor angelfish. These fish require at least a fifty gallon tank due to their adult size of six inches. Some reef tanks with this species in them but not many due to the fact that these may just like your corals more than the food they are supposed to eat, I would suggest leaving this angel in a fish only aquarium because they are more prone to eat all the coral you have spend time and money on.

Flame Angelfish (Centropyge loriculus)

Flame angelfish are easily the most popular dwarf angelfish because of its beautiful colors of red, blue orange, yellow and black. These fish require at the least thirty gallons but preferably forty to fifty gallons. These fish only reach four inches but are very active and need extra swimming room.

Lemon Peel Angelfish (Centropyge flavissimus)

Another angelfish that just barely fits in to the “dwarf angelfish” category is the lemon peel angelfish. This is a vibrant fish being solid yellow with blue around its eyes and gills as an adult and yellow and blue with a spot on its side that can be black or brown as a juvenile.

Pygmy Cherub Angelfish (Centropyge argi)

The pygmy cherub angelfish is a somewhat aggressive fish that is known to fight to the death with its own species if they are kept in the same tank. This is a nice colored fish, being blue and orange it can give your tank some new colors that you may otherwise not have. This fish has a maximum size of three inches so it is good for smaller tanks.

Imperator Angelfish (Pomacanthus imperator)

The imperator angelfish is by far the most sought after angelfish (Next to the regal angelfish) due to how beautiful it is when full grown (And as a juvenile). When full grown they have blue and yellow stripes and look like they have a mask over their eyes. When in the juvenile coloration they will be dark blue with baby blue and white stripes and patterns.

Regal Angelfish (Pygoplites diacanthus)

Beautiful and delicate due to its feeding habits (Some individuals will not eat). The colors of this fish are blue, yellow, white and black. This is an omnivorous species and needs both animal and plant matter to keep its vivid colors and to thrive.

Swallowtail Angelfish (Genicanthus melanospilus)

This fish contradicts the common one angelfish per tank and will not eat corals. These fish in nature are plankton eaters but can become omnivorous in an aquarium, These fish also are natural schooling fish and can be kept in a group.

Heniochus Butterfly fish (Heniochus acuminatus)

Also knows as the false moorish idol the heniochus butterfly fish is black, white and yellow in color. This butterfly fish unlike most others can be kept in pairs or in groups. The heniochus butterfly fish grows to be seven to ten inches and requires at least a one hundred gallon aquarium for one (Larger if you plan to keep a group).

Banggai Cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni)

Silver, black and white in color and reaches two to three inches in length, These are one of the most if not the most popular cardinalfish in aquariums due to the fact that some are tank bred, they have such beautiful markings and patters, and they are reef safe. These are carnivores and need only animal based food to survive; most animal based frozen foods are suitable.

Mandarins are beautiful when alive and devastating to watch die, death is something that happens far too often for most mandarins due to their feeding habits. Mandarins only eat copapods and all the little sand bugs and worms they can find in the ocean and it is hard to try and change their minds when introducing them to your aquarium, It has happened but is not common enough to try and base your entire decision on buying one on it.

By using external sources of heat, reptiles do not expend so much energy compared to birds and mammals, which generate heat within their bodies. So reptiles need less food, a scarce commodity in deserts. Using less energy also means that reptiles do not breathe as frequently as birds and mammals do, and this helps them conserve moisture.

The world’s oceans cover two thirds of Earth’s surface. There are many animal species virtually unheard of since the depth were they are located it makes it impossible for people to document them. The deep sea is about 78% of the planet’s inhabitable volume, fascinating people all over the world about rare or unknown sea creatures.

Modern research has shown that, despite the pitch-blackness of the water, the freezing cold, and the crushing pressure, some amazing and bizarre creatures have adapted to life in the depths of the sea.

Today, Chimera is a deep-ocean relative of sharks and ray, being often referred to as a ghost shark. Even though it is not as threatening as its fellow shark, the chimaera has a spine on the back that is highly toxic. It has a very unusual snout, very pointed and flat. It is found in depths of about 3,940 feet (1,200 m) and believed to be harmless. Scientists think the snout’s main purpose is to help the shark find food in deep, dark waters. There is little to be said about the shark since it has rarely been seen by humans and little data is recorded.

Described as one of the deadliest of all sea creatures, this type of jellyfish is famous for having an amazing defensive mechanism: it has 60 tentacles, with a length of up to 10 feet, packed with thousands of stinging cells that are activated when they touch the human skin. They deliver such an excruciating pain that the person attacked goes into shock and drowns. Their venom is considered to be among the most deadly in the world, containing toxins that attack the heart, nervous system, and skin cells.

With a huge mouth and large tail used to catch its prey, this eel is one of the most bizarre looking creatures in the sea. Their wide jaws and elastic stomach make it possible for the eel to swallow fish bigger than them. They live at about 10,000 feet beneath the sea and can grow up to 80 cm in length. Usually found in all of the world’s oceans at depths ranging from 3000 to 6000 feet, this eels have been brought to surface in fishing nets with their long tails tied into several knots.

This is the smallest sea horse in the world, reaching at maturity the size of a grain of rice. It is tiny, rarely reaching 15mm in length. There are very few things known about this seahorse, but scientists discovered that they eat the same zooplankton as the seafans that they inhabit. Still, seahorse numbers are diminishing, since they are used to treat sexual dysfunctions or consumed in Asia, roughly 45 tons of dried seahorses annually.

Probably more common than the rest of the other sea animals in the list, the tube-like creatures have a very important role in fighting the negative effects of global warming. It has been discovered that salps feed on the carbon-dioxide soaked algae from the oceans. Scientists that made this discovery are planning on increasing the algae-eating salp population in the world’s oceans by boosting its food supply. According to their estimations, sequester nearly a third of manmade CO2 annually.

This fish has apparently been known for some time, but its unusual ability to rotate its eyes within its transparent head to look at objects above it was only recently reported in the journal Copeia in late 2008. This adaptation is likely due to the dark environment in which this fish lives. You can read more about this fish here.
